Finding the trailhead: From Challis, take US 93 south to its junction with ID 75 on the right. Follow ID 75 about 16 miles south to where it bends right (west) to lead to Clayton. Before reaching Clayton, turn left (south) onto the signed and paved East Fork of the Salmon Road. It is 17 miles (the last 3 are gravel) until the turnoff on the right (west) to the dirt Livingston Mill Road (FR 667). Another 5 miles brings you to the trailhead. GPS: N44 07.85' / W114 30.80'

Parking and trailhead facilities: In most years and in most vehicles, you won’t be able to drive clear to the trailhead but will have to stop 0.25 mile before. A site crowded with many vehicles is not uncommon.
